This is just a quick one to inform you that normal service will resume next week, so deliveries will be on 28th/29th May. I will be at Wyken this coming Saturday and will have a limited offering of fruit and veg, so if you can come along there will be some nice produce available including some new season lettuce.
The past two weeks have really helped me to get on in the garden, so I have made some good progress. The polytunnel is all planted up with tomatoes and peppers, and in the greenhouse I have set out more tomato and cucumber plants. Outside I have planted more lettuce, and some rows of broccoli, and have sown some beetroot. The Friday before last I planted the first of the runner beans out, but they were killed by the frosts early last week, as were the courgettes. It was quite late to have such damaging frosts, but not unheard of, so it’s always a risk if you try to get ahead of yourself. I will plant more runner beans tomorrow, and will cross my fingers.
The lack of rain has been disappointing. I know that it probably feels like it has been wet, but in the whole of last week I measured only 4mm in the rain guage. It barely wet the ground, so soil preparation continues to be challenging – we’ll get there though.
I haven’t actually managed to take any time off, which was the plan, it has just been too busy. I might take half a day this week for rest and recuperation.
