I popped out into the garden last night to take a look at the Perseid Meteor Shower, something of an annual event at our house. However, there was no laying on the grass billing and cooing at the ‘shooting stars’ on this occasion because there was just too much cloud cover, which is a shame because there was apparently a good show in locations where the sky was clear. I will have another go this evening. A consolation of sorts have been some lovely sunsets recently. The one above was on Tuesday evening after several hours of persistent rain, the kaleidoscope of colours changed constantly, regrettably the camera never quite does them justice.

This is a short and to the point one this week because of having visitors, so time is of the essence. It’s straight to what’s available. There will be broccoli, chard and kale, runner beans, lettuce are back, I will be bunching beetroot and lifting turnips. Courgettes, patty pan and spaghetti squash are all in the shop, tomatoes are doing well, as are the various chilli peppers, and there will be a very limited number of red peppers, so they will be first come first served. I will be picking some of the early eating apples – I don’t know the variety, but they are not bad for this time of the season.
